The minimum balance under this account is Kshs. 2,000 and pays a better rate of interest than most banks. Interest is paid into the account once a year. Funds in this account can be used to guarantee a member’s loan.

Loan Products

To qualify for any loan, the applicant must have been a member of the Sacco for at least six months and have accumulated shares and deposits of at least Kshs. 100,000.

The minimum balance under this account is Kshs. 5,000. Interest is paid into the account once a year. A withdrawal notice of 30 days is required.

Emergency Loans

These have a maximum repayment term of 12 months and are charged 1% interest per month on a reducing balance basis. Members can only service one emergency loan at a time.

United Women Sacco is managed by an elected Management Committee and a Supervisory Committee. All members enjoy equal voting rights – one member one vote – irrespective of their shareholding.

School Fees Loans

  This loan is issued within 24 hours of approval. The maximum loan amount is Kshs. 50,000 and repayable within 3 months. Interest is charged at a rate of 2% per month on a reducing balance basis.

Loans range from Kshs. 300,000 to Kshs. 5 million and are charged 1% interest on a reducing balance basis. Repayment terms vary depending on the loan amount.

2011 AGM Highlights

During the financial year June 2010 – May 2011

  • AGM approved a dividend payout of 9% up from 8% in 2010
  • Membership grew by 43% from 627 members to 897 members
  • Share capital grew by 48% from 143.2 million to 212.6 million
  • Loan maximum increased from 5 million to 6 million
  • Repayment term increased to 72 months for loans above 5 million
